Operations Design

Operations Design aims to further your understanding of operations and process design within differing types of organisations, ranging from those that are service-based to those which are manufacturing-based. You will explore the major issues and challenges relating to the design of core business processes, and discover practical techniques to transform organisational input to high quality output.

You will receive critical tools and techniques to gather data, evaluate and measure the effectiveness of an organisation's operations, recommend and create change to these operations, and provide mechanisms for ongoing performance reporting and accountability.

Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership entry requirements apply to this course.

This course can also be taken as an open enrolment for professional development, instead of as part of the Graduate Certificate program. The cost for this course as professional development only is $6100 (inc GST).

Our expert facilitators

Dr Jon Heales
BCom, UQ, MCom (UNSW), PhD (UQ)

Jon Heales is a senior lecturer in Business Information Systems at UQ Business School. His primary research focuses on operations, auditing and business information systems development.

Before joining academia, Jon gained 15 years experience in information systems development, operational, financial, internal and IS auditing, and project management.  He has conducted systems development and computer auditing work for Esso Australia, NCR, Blue Bell (Wrangler Jeans), Anglo American, Barclays Bank, and Synercom (Unisys).  He has undertaken consulting assignments for Suncorp, Brisbane City Council, Qld Parliament Ombudsman, State Department of Tourism, Sport and Racing, and  Queensland Transport.

Jon has more than 50 refereed international publications in conferences and journals, including the Information Systems Journal (ISJ), Accounting and Finance (A&F), Information and Management (I&M), Journal of Information Systems (JIS), and the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems (IJAIS).
