Leading and coordinating groups and teams is an increasingly important capability in the modern organisation. This course is focused upon theories, models and practical frameworks for the effective and strategic leadership of teams.

Activities and course discussions begin with a focus upon the role of individual differences in group processes and progress to a discussion of team dynamics and the interplay between individual and team factors within organisations.

The approach taken will provide opportunities for you to actively reflect on your current practice and assist you to integrate and practically apply fresh insights to improve your leadership effectiveness.

Participants will leave the course with an in-depth understanding and a range of tools and techniques to lead and develop high performing teams.

Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership entry requirements apply for this course.

This course can also be taken as an open enrolment for professional development, instead of as part of the Graduate Certificate program. The cost for this course as professional development only is $6100 (inc GST).

Our expert facilitators

Associate Professor Neil Paulsen
BA (UQ), Grad Dip Coun (QUT), BA (Hons 1st class, UQ), PhD (UQ)

Neil Paulsen is an Associate Professor in the UQ Business School. He has research expertise in developing an intergroup perspective on organisational behaviour and change, as well as the role of leadership in team and organisational dynamics. He is currently also the Director of the UQ Social Economic Engagement Program.

Prior to his academic career, Neil gained more than 20 years industry experience as a successful senior manager and consultant in public, private, and community sector organisations. He has travelled and worked extensively internationally, included in the non-profit sector in India and Holland, and on consulting assignments in Germany, Ghana, China and Oman.

His experience as an educator has been recognised in a number of teaching excellence and service awards including the UQ Business School Executive Education Award, and the Pearson Education Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) Management Educator of the Year Award.
